CV Prof. Dr. Angela Brand MPH

Angela Brand, MD PhD MPH (USA) is Full Professor at MERIT (Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology), Maastricht University, The Netherlands; Director of the European Centre for Public Health Genomics (ECPHG) as well as Dr. T.M. Pai Endowed Chair on Public Health Genomics and Adjunct Professor at the School of Life Sciences at Manipal University, India.

 

Initially she worked as a Paediatrician then at various academic institutions and in governmental bodies in the USA and Germany. She is Paediatrician, Specialist in Public Health Medicine, holds a PhD in pathology, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University, USA, and received her habilitation focusing on Health Technology Assessment.

 

She has been the pioneer of Public Health Genomics in Europe and has coordinated and established National Task Forces in more than 15 EU Member States (MS) within the last years (PHGEN, www.phgen.eu).

 

She is Fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation, USA, Fellow of the 21st Century Trust of the Wellcome Trust, UK, and Member of the New York Academy of Sciences.

 

She is Expert for Challenge Group 2 “Big Data“ of the International Consortium Personalised Medicine (IC PerMed) jointly coordinated by the EC, over 26 EU MS and Canada. She is full partner of the EC DG Research and Innovation tender “Ex-post evaluation of the Health theme in FP7-Case Studies”.

 

She is Editor-in-Chief of the international Journal Public Health Genomics, Advisory Board Member of the EU Innovation Medicine Initiative (IMI) project OncoTrack, of ALACRiS Theranostics GmbH, of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute (LBI) for Health Technology Assessment, and of the European Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM).

 

She serves as an Expert for the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the OECD, WHO, the EC, the ECDC, the German Robert Koch-Institut (RKI), Genome Canada, Science Europe, AXA Research among others.

 

She collaborates with industry partners such as IBM, Roche, Pfizer, AMGEN, Novartis, MSD, Bayer HealthCare.

 

Currently she is coordinator of the FP7 ERA-net ERAfrica project innXchange.

 

She was e.g. Full Partner and Steering Committee Member of the EU Flagship Pilot Project IT Future of Medicine (ITFoM), Full Partner of the FP7 CSA PerMed on Personalised Medicine (www.permed2020.eu), President of the Section Public Health Genomics within the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), Steering Committee Member of the “Forward Look on Personalized Medicine” of the European Science Foundation.
